Meeting was called to order at 7:32 pm.  Minutes for January were read and unanimously accepted.

  1. The Congregational Church applied to the Building Inspector to request approval for a new sign.  A copy of the request and the sign were sent to G. Hughes for review by the Commission.  W. R. Schroeder made a motion to approve and B. Gundlah seconded the motion.  A vote of 6 in favor and one abstention/recusal (Schofield).  A letter will be sent to the Reverend Condon thanking him for following the guidelines.
  2. A request from Ben Puritz came to ask us for an opinion regarding a letter which was sent by Irene McCarthy asking for consideration of the park at the end of Cedar Street be named in memory of her parents.  While the letter came to the town several months ago, because it is just being brought to our attention now, it was moved and unanimously decided that we write a letter to Ben letting him know that we did not have enough time to do research before the closing of the Warrant which is later this week.
  3.  We heard an update from W. R. Schroeder regarding the Wilber School.  He reported that the town got a grant for $50,000 to do a septic study and that the Wilber School is at “ground zero”.  Selectmen Grasfield and Heitin attended the last meeting to give the committee direction.
  4. G. Hughes will set up an appointment with the developer or his attorney so that we may investigate the site at 143 Pond Street and their desire for a demolition permit.
  5. Discussion of the inventoried properties list ensued along with how we might be able to expand the list.  We discussed the possibility of local college students or Sharon High students who need community service/internship requirements helping us with this.  In many cities and towns this is a paid task or position. D. Martin offered to pursue.  B. Gundlah is reviewing materials and costs for a program to give owners of historic properties a uniform sign to place on their structures.  He’ll report at a future meeting. A letter was sent to the owners of 13 High Street giving them the go ahead to proceed with work outlined by their contractor.
  6. Community Center naming will be on the May Town Warrant.  The January meeting discussing this satisfied the requirement to have an open meeting.
  7. R. Young gave an update on filings for Historic District III.  W.R. Schroeder took several photographs in the required format.
  8. R. Young moved that we send a note to the Board of Selectmen to remind them that a Community Preservation Commission should be empanelled soon.  D. Martin seconded and a unanimous vote was recorded.

No further business on the agenda, D. Martin made a motion to adjourn.  This was seconded by B. Gundlah and so moved.
